BRIAR RIDGE & MOUNT VIEW ESTATE - LATEST AWARDS AND REVIEWS.
Following on from its recent 5 star rating in the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2010, Briar Ridge Vineyard has just been rewarded again by having three (3) wines placed in the NSW "Top 40 Wines" as part of the coverted 2009 NSW Wine Awards. The following wines were acknowledged in this best of the best NSW wines, which were judged from over 800 entries; the 2009 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, 2009 Homestead Verdelho and 2008 Botrytis Semillon.
Celebrating this outstanding achievement, Briar Ridge Vineyard General Manager, Jason Thomas praised winemaker Mark Wood for his ongoing commitment. "Mark is an unassuming winemaker who goes quietly about his work and over the last few years, it has become evident to all who have had dealings with his wines that 'Woodsey' has some special talents.
Mark has been flying 'below the radar' for some time, however these new accolades from the NSW Wine Awards, in conjunction with the many recent wine shop trophies and medals, and winery ratings, should see Mark's profile well and truly established".... for the full media release or for enquires go to: cellardoor@briarridge.com.au
After notching up over 40 medals and trophies in 2008, Briar Ridge Vineyard has just been awarded a prestigious 5 star rating in the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2010 edition. As Australia's leading wine critic, James Halliday's annual Wine Companion serves as one of the most important benchmarks for Australian winery ratings.
High ratings were achieved for the Hunter Valleys two most famous varieties - Semillon and Shiraz, as well as a Chardonnay from our Orange vinyard. With 4 wines receiving scores of 94 points and above, and several others scoring 90 points and above, this place Briar Ridge in the top 15% of wineries in Australia rated in this publication.
The highlight of these ratings, was a score of 95 points for the Trophy winning 2007 Dairy Hill Single Vineyard Shiraz, hand-crafted by winemaker, Mark Woods. Comments from the tasting of this wine were that it displayed "some similarities to the 1965 Lindemans Shiraz when young", which is arguably one of the greatest Hunter Valley wines ever produced, and ironically was made by our very own guest winemaker, Karl Stockhausen!
Established now for 37 years, Briar Ridge is known for it reputation for producing award winning wines of distinction, and according to James Halliday, "has been a model of stability" in the Australian wine industry....

BISTRO MOLINES - CHEFS HAT & HALL OF FAME INDUCTION.
Bistro Molines at Tallavera Grove Vineyard, Mount View has been operating for less than a year and has just been awarded a Chefs Hat - Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2010.
...."My meal was a high-water mark in 14 years of visiting the Hunter to feast on Molines's talent.
I like what his humility stands for: a rustic, yet sophisticated, honesty and an unpretentious relaxed pace with a sprinkling of enchantment. He has downsized from the epic production of Roberts and is all the better for it. Here is a chef with his hands on the tiller. His wife Sally is on the floor.
Molines is back in his element using local produce and celebrating the seasons in a regional French menu that is surprisingly pricey while still delivering bang for the buck. On the upside, the wine list is remarkably reasonable and parochial"...Reviewed by Simon Thomsen.
Robert Molines was inducted into the NSW Restaurant and Catering Association "JK Walker Culinary Hall of Fame" in the first week of October 09. Robert joins a long list of industry legends such as Tetsuya, Neil Perry and Tony Bilson which only further affirms the significance of this achievement for Robert as a Hunter Valley Chef.
The John K Walker Hall of Fame acknowledges the contribution by an individual to the Restaurant and Catering Industry in NSW. The award recognises a defined group of individuals and mentors within the industry who may be called upon by the industry as representatives of enduring excellence.
Bistro Molines at Tallavera Grove is open Thursday to Monday for lunch and Friday and Saturday nights for dinner.
